Mandisa, the most successful Christian artist ever to get her start on Idol, received a special Uplift Someone Award.

And Colton Dixon won the award for best rock/contemporary album for “A Messenger.”

Colton, the seventh-place finisher on Idol Season 11, was up for three Dove awards, the first nominations of his career.

Mandisa, ninth in Season 5, had been nominated several times in the past, but failed to win.

Earlier this year, she released her fourth album, “Overcomer,” which debuted at number one on Billboard’s Christian album chart and number 29 on the Billboard 200, both career highs for the 37-year-old.

The video for the title track and first single features several people overcoming obstacles, including “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts, who recently returned to the show after receiving a bone marrow transplant to combat a rare blood disorder.

“It is my absolute joy and privilege to be able to make music and to share it with my brothers and sisters in Christ,” she said in this article in The Tennessean, which also published a great photo of Mandisa receiving the award.

Colton’s reaction? “Speechless … honored,” he wrote on Twitter.

Colton was also nominated as best new artist (the win went to For King & Country) and best rock/contemporary song for “Never Gone” (the win went to Need To Breathe for “Keep Your Eyes Open”).

Colton and Mandisa will soon embark on the TobyMac Hits Deep Tour, along with a host of other Christian artists.

That tour will land at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore on Nov. 9 and the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa., on Dec. 5.

The GMA Awards will air 8 p.m. Monday on UP.
