Duncan Kamakana shares his heritage and his family’s talent in debut single

Duncan Kamakana’s impressive debut single became a family affair.

His father, Hawaiian folk singer Jon Osorio, and his sister, slam poet Jamaica Osorio, both contribute vocals to “Midnight Stones,” which you can check out at right.

As for the song itself, it’s about King Kamehameha’s war to unite the Hawaiian islands in the late 1700s.

In the song notes on CD Baby, Duncan says he wrote “Midnight Stones” as a song of hope, one he hopes will help unify the Hawaiian people.

“As we as Native Hawaiians continue to find our place in the current state of Hawaii, it is important that we continue to imua (go forward) together,” he said.

The song is the lead single from an album Duncan has been working on. You can check out more of his original music on his ReverbNation page.

Duncan was 25 when he auditioned for Season 4 of The Voice and made it to the battle round as a member of Team Adam.

You can keep up with Duncan through his website (see the behind-the-song video, which also features his father and sister) and Facebook page. On Twitter, he’s simply @DuncanKamakana.
