Hey, looks like Fantasia’s “Back To Me” album might have some staying power.
The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Hip-Hop/R&B album chart last week.
But high debuts are commonplace for high-profile Idols. It’s the second-week plummet you have to watch out for.
Well, “Back To Me” didn’t plummet.
It fell just three spots to number five on the Billboard 200, behind the likes of Katy Perry and Eminem. It’s still number two on the Hip-Hop/R&B album chart, behind only Eminem’s “Recovery.”
Here’s a look at other Idols on the music charts:
Kris Allen: Kris’ single “The Truth” has yet to crack the Hot 100 singles, but it’s 19 on the Billboard adult pop song chart. His first single, “Live Like We’re Dying,” is number eight on the Idol-friendly adult contemporary chart, up from number 10.
Kelly Clarkson: “Already Gone” moves up a spot to number seven on the adult contemporary chart. And, to think, a year ago we were all preparing for Kelly’s show on the York Fair Grandstand.
Daughtry: “September,” the band’s latest single, jumps nine spot to number 66 on the Hot 100 and is number five on the adult pop song chart, up from number seven. “Life After You” is still number six on the adult contemporary chart. The band’s second album is 96 on the Billboard 200, down four spots.
Fantasia: We’ve already covered the album. Now for the single. “Bittersweet” is number seven on the Hip-Hop/R&B singles chart for the third straight week. It drops to 81 on the Hot 100 after checking in at 71 a week ago.
Adam Lambert: His new single, “If I Had You,” is apparently losing a little steam, dropping from 32 to 35 on the Hot 100 after a rapid advance in recent weeks. “Whataya Want From Me” is still number nine on the adult contemporary chart; it’s been in that spot for three weeks. Adam’s album is 108 on the Billboard 200, down from 90.
Carrie Underwood: “Play On” had a bit of a rebound this week, with the former number one album moving from 10 to seven on the country chart and from 62 to 42 on the Billboard 200. “Undo It” is number 59 on the Hot 100, up two spots from last week.
