At least three American Idol contestants auditioned with original songs during Wednesday’s Season 13 premiere.

But certainly the most touching was offered up by a 15-year-old from Norwich, N.Y.

Kaitlyn Jackson told the Idol judges she was opening for Mark Wills at a country fair when her grandfather suffered a heart attack.

They were able to save him that night, and the experience prompted Kaitlyn to write a song called “Another Angel.”

Unfortunately, her grandfather died before he ever got a chance to hear it.

How did it go over with the Idol judges? Oh, it’s fair to say they were impressed.

Harry Connick Jr., the judge most difficult to please, gave her a “100 percent yes.” And country judge Keith Urban praised Kaitlyn for being able to write such a nice country song at such a young age.

In her Road to Hollywood video, Kaitlyn said she’s “been working my entire life for this. I’ve been watching since Carrie Underwood was on. Right then, I knew this was what I wanted to do. Now I’m living my dream.”

Her musical inspirations include Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift.

Oh, and Kaitlyn says she has a talent we didn’t get to see during her audition: She can yodel.

I’ve embedded some vidoes of Kaitlyn singing below. You can hear lots more on this YouTube channel.

Kaitlyn also has a website. And on Twitter, she’s @kjaxx_

“Who I’m Gonna Be,” a song she co-wrote at age 12.

“Crush” (another original)

“Blown Away” (Carrie Underwood cover)
