American Idol has found some talented singers in Utah over the years. Does the name David Archuleta ring a bell?

But a singing female lumberjack?

That’s the back-story for Kylee Adamson, 18, of Salem, Utah, who indicates in her Road to Hollywood video that she also trains hound dogs.

Kylee sang “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Krauss and Union Station for her audition.

We didn’t get to hear much of the judges’ feedback, but Keith Urban said she captured his attention as soon as she started singing.

And Kylee breezed to Hollywood with a unanimous yes from the judging panel.

In her Road to Hollywood video, Kylee said she auditioned at the urging of her sister, who had been bugging her to do so. Kylee had resisted because she was too scared.

“She said, ‘Kylee, they’re in Utah. You just need to to do it.”

Turns out being in front of three celebrity judges wasn’t nearly as intimidating as she thought it might be, partly because they made her feel so comfortable.

She says her number one musical inspiration is Carrie Underwood, partly because she went from being a small-town girl to one of the biggest stars in country music.

Kylee says she comes from a humble small-town background, too.

“Us small-town people never even dream of this,” she adds. “I just hope I can bring a new perspective — realness.”

She says she’s also used to working for what she wants.

“I chop wood for a living,” she notes. “That’s hard work.”

Her goal with music?

“I want to have one of those songs that can uplift someone out of a low moment in their life,” she told her hometown newspaper, The Daily Herald.
