Season 13

Hear more from American Idol’s T.K. Hash

For now, T.K. Hash will be remembered as the American Idol contestant who does the best impersonation of President Obama.

After all, he bears an uncanny resemblance to the president and wasn’t bashful about trying to imitate him when Harry Connick Jr. pointed that out.

But once he started singing, the Idol judges had something else to talk about.

T.K. did an a cappella version of “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” — no guitar for him — and delivered a solid performance that showed off pretty remarkable vocal range.

Keith Urban said he “absolutely loved” the audition. Jennifer Lopez liked his charisma. And Harry Connick Jr. called him “so likable.”

This isn’t T.K.’s first stab at American Idol. Back in Season 8, he made it to the Top 54 before being eliminated.

In the time in between, he’s helped care for his father, who suffered a stroke, and performed with a Charlotte-based band called Sol Fusion, according to The Charlotte Observer.

In his Road to Hollywood video, T.K. cites a simple reason for auditioning for Season 13. At age 28, it’s his last chance to do so.

When he performs, T.K. says he likes to generate an “air of excitement” and mix in an element of surprise whenever possible.

He said it’s also important for a performer to “understand your boundaries and limitations, looking at them, staring them down, and then completely smashing them. You have to have no inhibitions. You have to have complete ease (on stage) and with those you’re working with.”

And while I couldn’t find video of him performing with Sol Fusion, here he is in his previous Idol audition and performing at worship service along with his father, Eugene.
