JD Casper from The Voice Season 20

JD Casper from The Voice Season 20

JD Casper is among the artists to announce that they auditioned for Season 20 of The Voice.

Here’s more about JD.

* He’s an Austin, Texas, based artist who describes his music as indie folk.

* He’s also one of several Season 20 Voice contestants to have already released original music.

* In his case, that’s a trio of songs, “No Regrets” and “The Ballad of Johnny Hobo” from 2019 and “Living in the Past” from 2020. You can check out the latter below.

* JD and his band also released a four-song cover EP earlier this year, with tracks ranging from Tears for Fears’ “Everyone Wants to Rule the World” to “Harvest Moon.”

* The latter was an especially important track for JD, who recalls his grandmother asking him to learn her favorite song and play it for her when he was just 17.

* Writes JD on social media: “It’s become one of my all-time favorite songs. Every time I play it, I think of my dear Grandmother and how the tears ran down her face the first time I played it for her.”

* And JD told Manlihood.com that his grandfather is largely responsible for his indie folk sound. He spent a lot of time with him growing up and “he’s had country radio on in his living room and garage 24/7 since before I was born. I think it was imprinted into my subconscious for better or worse. But I really started to embrace the sound about 10 years ago. I like music that bleeds emotion.”

* JD is from Lewis Run, Pa., and has been working as a full-time musician for about six years.

Editor’s note: Season 20 of The Voice is scheduled to kick off Monday, March 1 on NBC.
