Vincent Powell was the very first contestant we met during American Idol’s San Antonio episode.

But he’s not exactly a new face on the show.

Vincent, 29, of Austin, Texas, made it to the final day in Hollywood last year before being cut.

He blames it, jokingly, on a long sip of soda Randy Jackson took during his last audition. He said it made him nervous.

Nothing made Vincent nervous in San Antonio. He auditioned with an impressive version of “Rock Me, Baby.”

Nicki Minaj was so impressed, she called his voice “amazing” and said she can already imagine a Vincent Powell gospel CD.

You really don’t have to imagine, Nicki.

Vincent released a 12-track gospel album back in 2008. It’s called “Convinced” and you can still buy it on iTunes.
