Shelbie Z., featured near the end of Wednesday’s show, competed on The Voice as a member of Team Blake back in Season 5 and finished in the Top 20.
Since then, she’s released a pair of singles, both of which you can listen to below.
On Idol, she auditioned with Carrie Underwood’s “Last Name,” showing off the same big voice that brought her so much success on The Voice.
Harry Connick Jr. called her performance “terrific” and Jennifer Lopez said she seemed to have “a lot of character and a lot of fight in her,” a trait that could serve her well on a competition like Idol.
Shelbie’s response: “I feel like great things are gonna happen.”
The 25-year-old from Alabama works as a hairdresser and told The Voice back in Season 5 that she competed in more than 100 beauty pageants growing up, winning about 45.
She later graduated to singing competitions and won several of those as well, including the Alabama Spirit Idol title in 2009.
You can follow Shelbie Z — full name Shelbie Zora James Panter — on her website and Facebook page. On Twitter, she is @Shelbie_Z.
Here are those two singles.
