Idol fans not thrilled with newest judges

American Idol is expected to introduce Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as the show’s new judges Wednesday.

Wow, now there’s a surprise, huh?

I mean, we’ve only heard rumors about a trio consisting of Tyler, Jo-Lo and Randy Jackson for … well, it seems like at least three months.

Or at least since Kara DioGuardi got her well-deserved boot.

What did surprise me somewhat was the reaction of Idol fans I encountered at the Josh Gracin concert last Wednesday at the York Fair.

Let’s just say the fans were less than awestruck.

Here’s what they had to say:

Trisha Warner, 18, of McSherrystown: “I think they’re bad changes. Ellen and Kara really spoke their mind. The only person I like is Jennifer Lopez.”

Kathy Wolfe, 56, of Hanover: “Now that Simon’s gone, I don’t really care. The show should be about the contestants anyway, not the judges.”

Gerald Emenheiser, 62, of Hanover: “When Paula left the show, it really went downhill. Now that Simon has left, it’s all over.”

Cathy Krebs, 56, of Spring Grove: “The show became more about the judges than the contestants, which isn’t how it should be. I was kind of done with the show a couple years ago.”

Andrea Bortner, 29, of York: “I don’t think Idol will last. This is it. Simon’s gone. Paula’s gone. I’m glad Kara is gone. Oh well, the show had it’s run.”

Yikes.

I mean, that’s very little love for the judging changes Idol is hoping will reverse the show’s declining ratings.

But there’s also a good deal of support for something Nigel Lythgoe said even before returning to the show as executive producer — that the focus should be on the contestants, not the trio or quartet sitting at the judges’ table.

Anyway, the official announcement comes at 10 a.m. PST Wednesday. Ryan Seacrest, in a tweet Tuesday, promises we’re “going to love the mix.”

Apparently, he didn’t talk to the fans attending the Josh Gracin concert.

you watch it for the wrong reason its about the contestents also if your so good at predicting. you should be rich, stockmarket, horse races. o maybe you should be a politician good at making promises. the ones that are not kept.

I think people need to stop being so judgemental and learn that things change in life as well as TV and you never know you just might like the new judges if you give them a chance . I know I will continue watching as i have in the last 9 seasons. Yes I like Paula and Simon they are missed. But everything happens the way it is supposed to.
