Folks who pre-ordered Nick’s upcoming debut album will get the song as an instant download.
It’s available to everyone else as a single on iTunes, where it also landed on Thursday.
The song is the first Nick has released since his Idol coronation single, “Beautiful Life,” last year.
That song peaked at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number 24 on the Adult Top 40 chart.
When Thursday’s Idol episode ended, “Get You Home” was sitting at number 152 on the iTunes Top 200.
Idol has a solid history of helping bump songs up the chart; Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece by Piece” soared all the way to number one after she performed it a couple of weeks ago. So it will be interesting to see what Thursday’s performance does for the sales of “Get You Home.”
There’s still no word on when Nick’s debut album will be available. He’s about to become the first Idol winner not to release an album before his successor is named.
In a story published in the Hartford Courant last month, Scott Borchetta said “we want to make sure we get traction with the single and then go on with the album.”
But a video is planned for the new single. It will be filmed later this month in Chicago.
And Nick told Ryan Seacrest that he felt lucky to have a hand in writing the new song.
