At one point during Season 10, James Durbin urged Idol viewers to just “give metal a chance.”
Wind-Up Records is about to give James Durbin a chance to spread his message about metal.
The company has signed Idol’s fourth-place finisher to a record deal.
In fact, a James Durbin CD will likely be out in November, according to the announcement on the company’s website.
In fact, James is midway through recording the album with producer Howard Benson, according to the press release announcing the signing.
Benson has worked with Daughtry and Three Doors Down, among others.
And, if you haven’t heard of Wind-Up Records, it’s the home of Evanescence and Creed. Pretty good company for James to be in, right?
In the press release, James says this: “Wind-up Records isn’t a label, it’s a family and I wanted to be a part of that. They are true music fans that want to see me have a long career as an artist. I couldn’t have asked for more when signing a record deal.”
For those counting, that makes five Season 10 Idols we’ll get new music from in the not-to-distant future — Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart, Pia Toscano and James.
James Durbin fans, not surprisingly, are thrilled by the news.
Writes LeeLeeResuh on Twitter: “I feel like it’s Christmas Morning & James Durbin just delivered the biggest & BEST Gift of all…and it’s wrapped up in METAL!!”

He so deserves this.. He is a great singer performer.. Can’t wait to hear
his CD
i am THRILLEEDDDDDDD for u james. somebody got it right. i was a lauren and james fan from day one. if you look back over the past years, an idle rocker has never won. crystal bowersox, adam lambert, chris daughtry, amanda or carly. I think america is afraid of rock and roll. otherwise james should have and would have taken the title. I am glad that haley didn’t get it, the girl can sing but she’s a spoiled brat, look how she reacted when she didn’t get in the top 2. but in absence of james getting it,, I thought lauren should of. not scotty
way to go james I can’t wait to buy your cd. I’ve got lauren’s and I’m waiting on you. THIS IS SOOOOO DESERVED. THANK GOD FOR DURBIN
