Former American Idol and The Voice contestant Keith Semple has a new project, a progressive rock/metal band called The Cyberiam.

The band recently released its debut single “Cool Kids,” which clocks in at just under 7 minutes. You can check out the music video for the song before.

“It’s been 18 months of seriously hard work four us to get to this special moment,” Keith tweeted about that single.

But more than the single is on the way. The Cyberiam has already recorded a 10-track debut album and is planning a pre-order listen party for Dec. 28 at Ballydoyle Aurora in Aurora, Ill.

The new single marks quite a change in approach for Keith, a native of Ireland whose run on Season 9 of American Idol was short-circuited by citizenship issues.

Keith had no such problem when he advanced all the way to the Top 20 on Season 9 of The Voice.

As for that musical approach, about two years ago, he was trying out a pop-rock-country approach with a five-track EP called “Anytime Anywhere.” That EP marked his first major release after The Voice.

Joining Keith in Chicago-based The Cyberiam are Frank Lucas on keys, Tommy Murray on drums and Brian Kovovacs on bass guitar and vocals.

You can learn more about the band on its Facebook page and website. On Twitter, Keith and company are simply @TheCyberiam.
