Kellie Pickler in search of new record deal

0

Add Kellie Pickler to the list of former Idol finalists looking for a new record label.

Kellie, six years removed from Idol, is no longer an artist for Sony Music Nashville.

Larry Fitzgerald, her manager, has been quoted saying that her contract with Sony had come to an end and the separation was mutual.

But here’s betting the decision wouldn’t have been mutual if Kellie’s third album, “100 Proof,” hadn’t flopped.

Featuring a more traditional country sound than her first two albums, “100 Proof” debuted at number two on the country album chart and at number seven on the Billboard 200 back in January.

But it stayed on the later chart just five weeks and failed to produce a top 25 country hit.

In contrast her 2006 debut album went gold and provided her with three top 20 hits. Her second album, released in 2008, yielded her biggest hit yet, the Taylor Swift co-written “Best Days of Your Life.”

Kellie’s still on tour promoting “100 Proof” and her concert dates include two Sept. 30 shows at the Hersheypark Amphitheater. Those shows are free with admission to the park that day.

Beyond that … well, here’s hoping someone signs Kellie.

As big as her personality is, she’s bound to be entertaining someone somewhere for years to come.

Meanwhile, here’s Kellie performing a song from that “100 Proof” album, “Stop Cheating on Me,” at the Grand Ole Opry.
