During a live chat with fans Tuesday evening, Lee DeWyze said we can expect his second post-Idol album “probably early to mid-next year.”
Lee revealed few details about the album during the chat, during which dozens of adoring fans popped in to say hello and express their admiration for his music, even if they didn’t have a question to ask.
Those who requested the Lee visit their town when he next goes out on tour all heard the same answer.
He’s likely to tour again next summer.
But the new album comes first.
“All my focus right now is really on the next album,” Lee said. “Getting the sound right, getting the songs where I want them.”
He said he’s been doing a lot of time writing and wants to turn out a second post-Idol album that’s emotionally-driven and captures some of the raw sound from his live performances.
And he said he’s enjoying taking a little more time with this album to make sure everything is perfect.
“Coming off Idol, it’s such a quick turnaround,” he said of the timing of “Live It Up,” his 2010 album. “You have to do things quickly.”
As for the Idol experience, Lee said: “I’m a big believer in taking risks. Idol is one I took.”
And one that paid off.
He won Season 9, of course, and “Live It Up,” while hardly a smash hit in chart terms, debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200.
