Lots of southern belles add pep to Scotty McCreery’s new video

0
to Belmont and Lipscomb universities in Nashville, Scotty McCreery found plenty of southern belles to grace his new video for a song by that name.

But these young women aren’t wearing daisy dukes and cowboy boots and riding in the back of a pickup truck.

For the new video, Scotty decided to surround himself with the cheer squads from those two universities and Vanderbilt University marching band.

So while he belts out his latest single — the up-temp “Southern Belle” — the band is performing around him and the cheerleaders are pulling off some pretty impressive stunts in the background.

After all, Scotty’s a former high school athlete. And he told The Rolling Stone he didn’t want the cheerleaders to be viewed as nothing more than eye candy.

“Anyone who doesn’t think cheerleading is a sport, I laugh,” he says in an interview you can read here. “I played baseball my whole life and I couldn’t flip or twirl.”

Now we’ll have to see if the cheerleaders can pump some pep into the performance of Scotty’s new song.

So far, it’s peaked at number 48 on the county airplay chart. But the video, released earlier this week, was number seven on the iTunes’ country chart as of Thursday.

“Southern Belle” is the lead single of Scotty’s third album, expected sometime next year.

Scotty also has been working on an autobiography called “Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward a Dream.” It’s set for release in May.
