So, have you seen what Maddie Poppe’s new single did after she won American Idol?

The song was sitting around number 30 on the iTunes singles chart when Monday’s American Idol finale began.

By the morning after she was announced the Season 16 champ, it had jumped as high as number three at one point.

And here’s the most impressive feat: Wednesday at 8 p.m., 48 hours hours after the Idol finale began, it’s still at number four.

Remember, this is a single from a show where downloads don’t count as votes, so the only reason to stream or buy the song is if you really enjoy it.

Meanwhile, Maddie’s been on the interview circuit since her victory. I’ve embedded some of those below.

Among the highlights:

* Maddie told Entertainment Tonight she owes a big thank you to Katy Perry. You’ll recall that at the end of Sunday night performance show, Katy announced she’d be voting for Maddie. “Katy Perry I think, influenced this a lot. She was a really big advocate for me. She really believed in me when a lot of people were going for the more mainstream artists.”

* Appearing on Kelly and Ryan the morning after her win, Maddie told Ryan Seacrest she stole a peek at the results card before he announced her as the winner. “Ryan, you’re really bad at hiding the card,” she joked.

* Appearing on Good Morning American, Maddie said one of her favorite Idol performances was singing “Rainbow Connection” with Kermit the Frog during Sunday’s show. “It was just so much fun,” said Maddie, who performed the song minus Kermit for her audition. “Usuallly, the choreographers are ‘You have to smile more.’ I couldn’t stop smiling there. It’s like singing with Michael Jackson.”

As for whether she and Caleb Lee Hutchinson will be performing any duets now that they are boyfriend and girlfriend as well as runner-up and winner on American Idol …

“If she’ll have me,” Caleb Lee said. “She’s a superstar now.”

Here are those interview clips.

I was very apprehensive of the Idol return. I have been more than pleasantly surprised. As for the winner, Maddie is my all time favorite Idol winner. I can only hope she will do for ABC’s Idol what Kelly did for Fox’s Idol. I think she can. One of the things Kelly had that helped her win, besides her awesome voice, was her aw shucks personality. Maddie has a similar vibe. You just want good things for her. I find myself Googling her every day to see what’s new.Even bought her self produced CD.And like you I am salivating with anticipation of Season 17.

To be honest The Voice has never done it for me and it seems America in general. They have yet to have any real success from anyone on the show. I think the fact Loren Allred voicing ‘Never Enough” was probably their biggest claim to fame. And they really can’t take a whole lot of credit for that. In fact one of the reasons I watched The Voice this season was to see if they would bring her back to sing that live. But alas they did not.

Indecently your article hit the nail squarely on the head.
