For a ninth-place finisher on American Idol, you could say Mandisa has carved out a nice career for herself in Christian music.
So nice that her latest single is soaring up the Christian charts, even though it won’t be released for another two weeks.
The song is called “Overcomer,” and this week it moved up from 38 to 24 on the Billboard Christian singles chart.
The song will be released on July 9; it’s also the title track from Mandisa’s upcoming album, set to drop Aug. 27.
The album will be the fourth for Mandisa and her first since “What If We Were Real” in 2011.
That CD hit number two on the Christian albums chart, produced a number one Christian hit in “Stronger” and was nominated for a Grammy.
As for the new album, Mandisa wrote on Facebook that Thursday was “fix it” day in the studio.
“All of the songs are recorded. Now I just go back in and tidy things up,” she wrote. “Eek! It’s coming! It’s coming! Can’t wait for you to hear it.”
Mandisa has also announced on her website that she’ll be returning to the Toby Mac Hits Deep Tour in December with a show in New York City.
Other performers for the show will include Season 11 finalist Colton Dixon, who’s off to a promising start in the Christian music industry himself.
For details on that show, head here. Mandisa’s site indicates more tour stops will be announced soon.
