Scott Dangerfield, Season 11

Meet American Idol contestant Scott Dangerfield

2

Last year, Scott Dangerfield dashed into the Idol audition room looking like anything but a star, but dazzled the judges with his rendition of Amos Lee’s “Dreamin’.”

Jennifer Lopez declared him one of her favorite male performers.

But he dropped out of Idol before Hollywood Week because he was also a student-teacher working on his teaching degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and said he felt he owed an obligation to his students.

Now he’s back, having earned a golden ticket in Galveston and buoyed by the support he received after last year’s episode aired.

“I built somewhat of a fan base online,” he says in his golden ticket interview. “And the students were very supportive of me.  They all wanted me to do it again.”

Scott might be an aspiring teacher, but he’s not exactly a novice at this music business.  Twenty-three at the time of this year’s audition, he was a singer with a band called Hillcrest Road, which released an album in 2009, and also performed with a group called Crash County Music.

That said, his first-ever band gig wasn’t exactly a smashing success.  He was filling in for his brother, and had to learn the lyrics to all the band’s songs in one week.

“We showed up and there were like two people there (to listen),” he recalls.

And why should he be the Season 11 American Idol?

“I have a good personality.  I dance OK for a white guy in his 20s,” he says, proving his first point.  “And I think I have a good voice.”

You can judge the latter for yourself by watching the videos below.
