(NBC Photo)Her audition: Peyton Parker, 20, of Kennesaw, Ga., auditioned with Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” She enticed early chair turns from Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams with her strong performance. Blake praised her “perfect pitch.” Despite lots of pressure not to make the obvious choice, Peyton opted to join Team Blake.

Her background: Growing up, Peyton says she was “super passionate” about cheerleading. She hoped to land a scholarship, then perhaps become a cheerleading coach so she could remain involved in it for the rest of her life. She wound up competing at a high level in cheerleading, until she tore ligaments in her ankle, ending her cheerleading career. That’s when she turned to music. Along with her decision to pursue a new passion, Peyton asked her parents to move to Nashville. They complied. Her mom is now her manager and Peyton — who describes herself as “not a typical country singer” — performs around town.

What the show didn’t show:

  • The move to Nashville occurred in 2013, and Peyton soon began working with producers Sam Ashworth and Grammy award winner Charlie Peacock, according to her website bio.
  • She released a single called “If It Was Worth Fixing” to iTunes last March. You can listen to it below and you’ll find a couple of more Peyton songs on that website.
  • She’s appeared in concert with a number of country artists, including Jana Kramer, Parmalee, David Nail and Natalie Stovall.
  • In a blog you can read here, she describes her lyrics as “conversational” and her music as “pop-country with some sparkle.”
  • She says her influences range from Nirvana to Demi Lovato to Patsy Cline.
  • “Dreams” — her audition song — is one of her favorites, she says on YouTube, where you can watch a longer cover version here.
  • At the end of her audition, Christina, Pharrell and even Adam Levine, who didn’t turn his chair, tried to convince Peyton to join a team other than Blake’s. “It was crazy,” Peyton says. “But at the end of the day, I’m a country singer and I just feel like Blake understood me the most as an artist. He said what I needed to hear as an artist and I felt he could bring the best out of me.”
  • On her website, Peyton identifies herself as a singer, songwriter and Boston Terrier Wrangler. “I have two Boston terriers (Rae and Hank), and they’re the craziest dogs in the world,” Peyton explains. “So they need wrangling sometimes.”
  • On iTunes: Her Voice performance and her 2015 single.
