Meet Chelsea M of Team Usher on The Voice

We only saw a couple seconds of Chelsea M’s blind audition for Season 4 of The Voice.

But the gal from Springfield, Va., admits she was a bundle of nerves before it began.

But once I was about to go onstage, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m freaking out. Right before I walked on stage, I almost started crying my eyes out. I don’t know why. I was so emotional.

“To be honest, I don’t remember a thing that happened when I was on stage. I just know I was happy with the outcome.”

The outcome found Chelsea M. — full name Chelsea Monindroo — on Team Usher.

And, once you learn her back-story … well, the nerves are understandable.

Chelsea says she’s been singing for a long time, teaching herself to sing the music of Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Whitney Houston.

She credits her choir teacher for helping her overcome her shyness about performing in front of people.

But even when she went to James Madison University, she decided to become part of an a cappella group rather than embarking on any type of solo venture with her music.

She says The Voice represents her first attempt to do that. And it’s the reason she decided to try The Voice as opposed to another singing show.

Because of the blind audition, the focus would be solely on how she sounded, not how skilled she was as a performer or how shaky she might be on stage.

She chose Usher as a coach for the same reason, Chelsea says. She thinks he can help hone her performance skills. Besides, she considers herself a pop artist with a touch of R&B and soul in her music.

“His training is insanely helpful,” she said in a conference call interview the day after her audition aired. “I can see how he was able to make other people famous because of the things he has to say and the advice that he has to give is really, really useful.”

Update: Lost to Michelle Chamuel in the battle round, singing “Titanium.” Was not stolen.
