Conor James of The Voice Season 27

Conor James of The Voice Season 27

His audition: Conor James, 28, of Bridgewater, Mass., performed “I Say a Little Prayer” by Dionne Warwick: Conor’s tender opening prompted almost immediate chair turns from John Legend and Michael Buble. When the song swelled, Adam Levine and Kelsea Ballerini joined them, giving Conor a four-chair turn. He ended with a pretty impressive glory note too. John called the performance “so beautiful” and “tasteful.” And said he thinks Conor will go super far on the show. Kelsea said she’s obsessed with Conor. Adam said he loves Conor’s spirit and it reminds him of coaches he’s led to victory on the show. Conor opted to join Team Adam.

Here’s more about Conor:

* He’s a Los Angeles-based songwriter, producer and singer with lots of already released music.

* His first major release appears to be an 11-song, 2020 album called “Zephyr” that’s still available on Bandcamp.

* On Apple Music and Spotify, you’ll find a 12-song 2022 album called “Caberet” and a number of more recent songs.

* Those include “It Happens All the Time,” a 2023 single that spawned a music video you can check out below.

* At the time the music video was released in August 2023, Conor wrote that it “feels so true to self, so inclusive of all of my identities and nuances, so human … This is also my favorite song I’ve ever released. Took a lot of labor and discomfort to get it there and it was worth it all.”

* More recently, Conor writes on Instagram that he’s joined a cult indie band called PetProphet. They released two singles in 2024 — “1-800” and “Computer Man.”

* In a 2022 interview with Voyage LA, Conor says he “began writing music in the solitude of my bedroom as a queer weirdo kid in small-town Massachusetts.”

* He says he makes “art as a means to understand the ever-uncertain world around me, faltering along the way deliberately (and beautifully, I hope).”

* “My biggest strength is painting a vivid lyrical picture and discussing themes of sexuality and gender that aren’t often touched on by men,” he adds.

Update: Conor has already released two songs in conjunction with his time on The Voice — “Indigo don’t be shy” in late January and “Forrest,” which came out March 7. The sound is completely different from his Voice audition song. And he addresses his time on the show and his goals in doing it in a wonderful Instagram post you can check out here.
