His audition: Jose Luis, 21, of Carolina, Puerto Rico, performed “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo. Jose demonstrated great range on a tender opening. There was a lot of emotion in this vocal too. His voice swelled impressively and that started chairs turning until all four coaches are facing in Jose’s direction. Snoop Dogg called his vocal “big, like movie big.” Gwen Stefani liked the way he seemed to take the song and make it his story. She also liked the dymanics in his performance. Jose decided to join Team Gwen.

* During his intro package, he told The Voice he’s been watching the show since the very first season. “To be here is like a dream come true.”

* He credits growing up in Puerto Rico and seeing all the talent there as one of his inspirations for pursuing music.

* And he said he’s always loved fashion, art and performance and, as a result, felt like an outcast for most of his life.

* “Music created a space for me to feel welcome,” he told the show.

* Another of his inspirations is Lady Gaga, and Jose says he dreams of becoming a pop star like her.

* According to his Voice bio, Jose struggled with his mental health following the death of his grandmother in 2021.

* She was the pillar of his family, the bio says, and taught him about unity and selflessness.

* Therapy following her passing helped lead him back to music.

* Prior to The Voice, one of Jose’s biggest performances was getting to duet with Natalie Weiss of “Breaking Down the Riffs” fame in New York.
