Kamila Kiehne of The Voice Season 26

Kamila Kiehne of The Voice Season 26

Her audition: Kamila Kiehne, 17, Los Lunas, N.M., “Black Velvet”: Kamilia had barely started singing than the coaches started turning, including Michael Buble, Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg. For her young age, Kamila shows off really good stage presence. Michael said he “killed” the audition and said she radiates “light.” Reba loved the emotion in her performance. Kamila opted to join Team Buble.

Here’s more about Kamila:

* She’s 17, a bilingual singer-songwriter, was a junior at Los Lunas High School near Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she submitted her Voice audition video eight months ago.

* Her interest in music comes naturally. Her mother is a dance instructor; her father Shawn is a singer known in the area as El Gringo. He’s also released music as Shawn Brooks.

* In fact, Kamila’s dad can pass on some tips about singing on a TV show. In 2005, he competed on Univision’s “El Gigante de Mañana” (Giant of Tomorrow) and placed second.

* “According to my parents, I haven’t stopped singing since I started talking,” Kamila says in that Voice audition video. “That is definitely my goal for the future. I never want to stop writing music; I never want to stop singing. That is my passion.”

* She sings snippets of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” in that audition video, which you can check out on her YouTube.

* Kamila plays guitar and piano and describes her music as “chill or emotional, moody music,” in an interview with the Valencia County News-Bulletin. “I like to put true emotion and feeling into my songs.”

* Kamila says her favorite thing to do is sing at Legacy Church in Albuquerque and credits those performances for helping her get comfortable performing in front of large crowds.

* The Legacy Worship YouTube channel backs that up. Several videos there feature Kamila. Check out her impressive vocal on “The Answer” below.

* In spite of her young age, Kamila has two songs on streaming sites — “Strangerz” and “Drug I Need,” both released in 2021.

* You can check out more current originals on her social media. She posted a snippet of a song called “Not Again” last week.

* She’s also performed the national anthem at a wide variety of events around her hometown, including a profession bull riding competition.
