Ricky Boyce of American Idol Season-24

Ricky Boyce of American Idol Season 24

His audition: Ricky Boyce, 29, Goldsboro, N.C., “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd — Viewers saw just a snippet of Ricky’s audition, but he showed off strong vocals. Carrie Underwood called songs like the one he auditioned with — southern rockers — his wheelhouse.

Here’s more about Ricky:

* He’s a country singer-songwriter in his late 20s who was born in upstate New York but now resides in the Goldsboro, N.C., area.

* Ricky released a debut solo single called “Your Grace is Enough” about a year ago. He has another fine original, ‘Sandy Creek,” on Facebook.

* And while his voice screams country on “Sandy Creek” songs, he’s sounded more boisterous in other musical adventures.

* He’s been a part of at least two punk-rock bands — TSFT, which released a debut single called “Love & Other Disasters” in 2021 and The Fall Equinox, which released an EP called “Divinity” in the summer of 2024.

* In his Spotify bio, Ricky says his interest in music was piqued when he was 13 and started playing guitar.

* He entered the military at age 18, serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He has several photos from his military days on his Instagram.

* A turning point for him came when his stepdad — who believed in his talent and encouraged him to pursue his dreams — committed suicide in 2016. At that point, Ricky became more committed to pursuing music.

* Ricky describes his solo music as reminiscent of Zach Bryan and Eric Church.
