Savannah Berry got her first taste of country music fame almost exactly two years ago.
Sugarland spotted her YouTube video of their song “Stuck Like Glue” and invited her to record a duet with them as a promotion for the 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards show.
Next thing you knew, the teen was on the red carpet with Sugarland at the ACMs, rubbing elbows with the stars of country music.
Not that she’s an overnight sensation. Not by any stretch.
The 17-year-old says she’s been singing since age 4, performed with her grandmother at a Saturday night Opry show in Texas when she was 8 and started posting videos to YouTube at age 13, slowing building a following with her covers of hit songs.
But it was after the Sugarland experience that she decided to start home schooling so she could really focus on a career in music.
Since then, she’s released a five-song EP that’s available on iTunes. You can find all the songs on her YouTube channel. I’ve embedded two of them below.
On The Voice, she sang “Safe and Sound,” the Taylor Swift tune from the Hunger Games soundtrack.
How did she do?
Well, Adam Levine and Shakira turned around before her first run through of the chorus, soon followed by Blake.
Then the hard sell began, as Adam and Shakira tried to prevent the inevitable. Yep, Savannah wound up picking Blake.
But the coaches on The Voice weren’t the only ones to take notice of her audition.
So did pop star Kelly Clarkson, who tweeted a prediction that she just might win Season 4 of The Voice.
In a conference call after her audition aired, Savannah said she’s been a huge fan of Kelly’s “since day one,” considers her “a wonderful inspiration” and thinks it’s “amazing to know she even knows who I am.”
And, who knows, Savannah might wind up singing a Kelly song on The Voice. She told the media not to expect all country songs when she takes the stage.
“I really enjoy taking songs that aren’t country or pop songs and putting kind of a country twist on it. So I’m really excited to see what people think about that.”

Now, those promised originals.
Update: Savannah defeated Jacqui Sandell on Little Big Town’s “Little White Church” in the battle round. In the knockout round, she sang “As Long as You Love Me” by Justin Beiber and lost to Justin Rivers, who sang “The Climb.”
“Cold October”
“Love Me Like You Mean It”
