Idol returns to ABC on sunday, Feb. 18 with the coaching trio of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan back intact.
Here’s more about Scarlett.
* She’s a 26-year-old from England who describes herself on Spotify as 5-foot-3 of “pure powerhouse vocals.”
* She arrives at Idol with lots of singing show experience, having competed on Season 14 (2017) and Season 15 (2018) of The X Factor in England.
* The first time around, she advanced to what’s known as the six-chair challenge. The second time, she finished as runner-up to Dalton Harris. Simon Cowell was her mentor in the competition.
* That season, she auditioned with “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman and performed Elton John’s “Your Song” in the finals. She also got to duet with Leona Lewis. Her performances from Season 15 have been viewed millions of times on YouTube.
* Scarlett was working as a makeup artist before appearing on the show. She told the judges at her initial audition that she’d been performing since she was very young, was a huge fan of the X Factor and used to pretend she was singing on the show.
* Since The X Factor, she’s released a pair of songs, a debut single called “Love Shy” and a holiday single called “My Christmas Wish.”
* She’s teased a couple of other originals on her social media, including a song she wrote for her dad. Below, you can check out Scarlett covering Adele’s “I Drink Wine.” which she calls one of her favorites.
* Scarlett dropped a new single called “One For You” in mid-February. Says Scarlett: “This song for me specifically highlights the fact that we all go through difficult things in life and there are many battles so many of us have to face along the way, but it’s how we use these situations to turn it into something beautiful that truly matters.”
* She also announced on Instagram that she’s working on an album of music “that comes from the most vulnerable parts of me,”
* American Idol? Well, Scarlett writes on Instagram that performing on the show was another of her goals.
* Writes Scarlett: “I can truly say I’m proud of myself because no matter the knock backs.. no matter the no’s .. no matter the situations I never gave up, I always fought for my dream because that’s the thing in life I wanted the most. Remember, dreams are there to make reality. So go get it!”
