Dawson Slade Mitchell of American Idol Season 22

Dawson Slade Mitchell is among the artists to earn a gold ticket on Season 22 of American Idol.

Idol returned to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 18 with the coaching trio of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan back intact.

Here’s more about Dawson.

* He’s a teenage country singer-songwriter who goes by the stage name Dawson Slade, has already released a debut single and is based in Nashville, Tenn.

* Dawson is from the small town of Moulton, Alabama, where he caught the music bug after getting a hand-me-down guitar from one of his brothers when he was just 5 years old.

* He moved to Nashville in May 2023 when he was still just 17. He’s also father to a son, who was born just one month later.

* “Growing up in a small town with a very large musically talented family is what helped craft me ito the songwriter and artist I am today,” he writes in his Spotify bio.

* While his family exposed him to a wide range of music growing up, Dawson said his artistic home is a mix of traditional and classic country.

* That aforementioned single, “Home in My Heart,” dropped in late September and you can check out a snippet of it below.

* While it’s the only original Dawson has released, he’s posted snippets of several others to social media.

* They include “Me and This Whiskey Glass” on TikTok from his first full band show on Music Row in Nashville last July. You can check out others, including “Special One,” “Can’t Win for Losing” and “Hard Place” on his Instagram.

* Dawson announced his upcoming appearance on Idol was back in early November and told DemoJail.com, the opportunity came along at the right time. “I was asked to do American Idol and I made it. If it wasn’t for that, I don’t know that I would still be here doing this. My confidence and creativity were slipping.”
