Michael Lee of The Voice Season 15 released his sophomore album Friday

Michael Lee of The Voice Season 15 released his sophomore album Friday.

Michael Lee said his new album would be “retro Texas rhythm and blues, with a helping of rock and roll.”

The Season 15 Voice standout delivered in fine fashion Friday, when his self-titled sophomore album landed.

Michael had released “Love Her” as an impressive lead single back in early June. You can check out the music video below.

But his new 11-song collection is packed with fine originals. Plus one cover, the version of B.B. King’s “The Thrill Is Gone” that he used to turn three chairs on The Voice.

Highlights among the originals include the slow and seductive “This Is” and a trio of more up-tempo songs, “Praying for Rain,” “Can’t Kick You” and “Weeds.”

The latter was inspired when Michael and his wife moved into their house, he told American Blues Scene.

“I imagined the overgrown weeds in the backyard being our future children playing,” he recalls. “I grabbed my guitar and wrote that song in ten minutes. It was just meant to be.”

Michael, 30 when he auditioned for The Voice and based in Fort Worth, had released a debut album in 2014.

He credits producers Nick Choate and Nick Jay with helping fulfill and surpass his vision for the new album.

These days, Michael’s also serving as front man for the B.B. King Blues Band. In fact, he has a busy summer tour schedule in that role, including a late-August show in nearby Harrisburg, Pa. Check out all the upcoming tour dates on his website.

Meanwhile, here’s that music video for “Love Her” from the new album, “Michael Lee.”
