Not one. Not two. Not even three.
Five — count ’em — five singles from former American Idol contestants reached new peaks on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week.
Without further ado, here’s a rundown of how the Idols did on the charts this week.
Kris Allen: “Live Like We’re Dying” moves up three spots on the Hot 100 to a new high of 21. It’s also number 15 on Billboard’s pop songs chart. And with Kris due to appear on Idol next week, here’s betting the single soon cracks the top 20. The debut album isn’t doing nearly as well, dropping from 116 to 127 this week on the Billboard 200.
Kelly Clarkson: Forty-eight weeks after its release, the album “All I Ever Wanted” drops out of the Billboard 200. But Kelly’s “Already Gone” single is still number 40 on the Hot 100 (down from 34), number five on the adult contemporary chart and number four on the adult pop songs chart.
Daughtry: Here’s another of those peaking singles — “Life After You.” It moves up from 52 to 48 on the Hot 100. Daughtry’s second album slips one spot on the Billboard 200, from 53 to 54. The band’s debut album is still number 162 on the same chart.
Adam Lambert: Hot on the heels of Kris’ single is Adam’s “Whataya Want From Me,” which jumps from 35 to a new high of 31 on the Hot 100. It’s number 21 on the pop songs chart. Adam’s first single, “For Your Entertainment,” also reached a new high this week, moving from 19 to 15 on the dance club play chart. As for the album of the same name, it drops from 49 to 58 on the Billboard 200.
Kellie Pickler: It’s been a slow climb, but “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You” continues to climb. It made a big move on the country singles chart this week, vaulting from 17 to 14. It debuted on the Hot 100, albeit at number 99. Kellie’s second album slipped two spots, from 29 to 31 on the country album chart.
Ruben Studdard: And it’s not the Hot 100, but Ruben’s new single, “Don’t Make ‘Em Like U No More,” also hit a new high, jumping from 35 to 32 on the R&B singles chart.
Carrie Underwood: “Temporary Home” is charging up the Hot 100, moving from 61 to 54 this week. But it’s stuck at number eight on the country singles chart for the second straight week. As for “Play On,” Carrie’s third album? It’s number five on the country album chart, down one spot, and number 23 on the Billboard 200, a five-spot drop.
