David Cook’s second post-Idol album took a pretty big tumble on the Billboard 200 music chart this week.

“This Loud Morning” debuted at number seven last week. This week it tumbles all the way to number 26.

Now, that’s not nearly as big a drop as fellow Season Seven contestant David Archuleta saw for his second album.  It debuted at 13 and dropped to 71 in week two.

But David’s drop is the biggest among new albums that cracked the top 10 a week ago.

Beyonce held steady at number one. Selena Gomez actually advanced a spot to number two. Big Sean dropped from number three to number nine.

As I wrote last week, I think David sounds fine on his new album. He’s delivered some fine new songs. After repeated listens, “We Believe” is probably my favorite. Several of the tunes sticks in your head.

But there’s not nearly enough diversity on the album.  Whether or not that would make a difference on the charts … I imagine a single that makes a big splash on the charts would have more of an impact, and “The Last Goodbye” simply hasn’t done that.

Meanwhile, the American Idol Highlight EPs for each of the top four finishers from Season 10 are holding up surprisingly well on the charts.

I say that partly because most of the music on these five-track EPs was available for download long before they were released.

Scotty McCreery’s EP is number 19 on the chart, down from number 10. Lauren Alaina’s drops to 35 from 24. Haley Reinhart’s actually held steady at 37. James Durbin dropped seven spots, from 31 to 38.
