Never count out Carrie Underwood

Just when you think a Carrie Underwood single has no chance of hitting number one on the country charts, this happens.

“Mama’s Song,” Carrie’s fifth single off her “Play On” album, just jumped from number seven to number four on the country singles chart.

This after being stuck between number 14 and number seven for eight weeks and apparently losing momentum.

Now the only tunes standing between Carrie and another number one country hit are “Why Wait” by Rascal Flatts, “Turn on the Radio” by Reba McEntire and “My Kinda Party” by Jason Aldean.

If Carrie reaches number one, it’ll be the fifth straight single off “Play On” to do so.

Other music chart highlights for Idols this week:

* Adam Lambert’s “Acoustic Live” EP debuts at a rather unimpressive 126 on the Billboard 200.

* After dropping 104 spots on the Billboard 200 in two weeks, Lee DeWyze’s debut album checks in at 133 compared to 123 last week.

* Still no sign of Lee’s first single, “Sweet Serendipity,” on the Hot 100.

* Fantasia’s “Bittersweet” reverses course on the R&B singles chart, moving up six spots to number 32.

And here’s the complete rundown.

The Kelly Clarkson song is  a duet with Jason Aldean from his “My Kinda Party” album.
