Katelyn Clampett, New Idol Music

New music coming Friday from former Idol contestant

Former Idol contestant Katelyn Clampett will release a "Strictly Business" EP on Friday.

Talk about an unexpected musical treat.

A newsletter arrived yesterday from Katelyn Clampett, a former American Idol contestant, announcing plans to release an EP on April Fool’s Day.

Don’t remember Katelyn?

Little wonder. She was among quite a few talented female singer-songwriters who disappeared from the Idol ranks before the semifinals began in Season 9.

Idol’s loss. Especially considering how Season 9 played out.

Anyway, this EP is called “Strictly Business” and it includes five tracks written by Katelyn, a 22-year-old from Cary, North Carolina, who now lives in Los Angeles.

She calls it pop/rock with sassy southern charm.

Oh, yeah, a big healthy dose of southern sass, especially on the title track and “Gimme a Beat.”

The EP also includes the much tamer and quite catchy “He’s Not You.” Guess that’s the charm part.

Since it’s being released on April Fool’s Day, Katelyn also included her five favorite April 1 pranks in the newsletter.

Prank #1: Turn all the clocks up two hours at your friend/roommate/significant other’s house. Make sure to put your “oblivious” face on.

Ah, Katelyn. I would not be amused.

But, hey, great job on the music.
