Recent post-Voice releases include a new album from Season 11 champ Sundance Head and Whitney Fenimore and an EP from Jim and Sasha Allen.
Here’s a bit more about each of those releases. The links take you to the projects on Apple Music.
Jim and Sasha Allen, the father-son duo who did so well under coach Ariana Grande on Season 21, released a four-song EP called “16 Borders” on Friday. “We hadn’t really set our minds on recording an album together ever before, but 16 Borders is an outgrowth from our experience on The Voice, and seemed like a great way to celebrate that journey we shared,” Jim told The Newtown Bee. “The process of putting the record together was really fun. And Sasha chose these four songs I wrote because he grew up with them, and that’s very meaningful for me as both a writer and his father.” In fact, Jim wrote the wonderful title track years before Sasha was born. He calls it “a traveling coming-of-age” song.

Sundance Head, winner of Season 11, recently released an 11-song album called “Starting Again.” Many of the songs — including “My Soul” and “Hard Act to Follow” — were inspired by his father Roy Head, also a musician. “My dad was an amazing man,” Sundance said. “He had faults like everyone. However, his good parts were far beyond.” Another standout on the album is “Three People (Me, Jim Bean and You).” “Starting Again” follows 2019’s “Stained Glass and Neon” as Sundance’s second album since winning the Voice. He celebrated with an album release show over the weekend in Woodlands, Texas.

Whitney Fenimore from Season 13 released a seven-song album called “Leaving Ashwood” on Friday. Lead track “Holding Hands” is marvelous, focusing on Whitney’s past struggles being open and honest about her sexuality. Since The Voice, Whitney married to Kendall Wessenberg, a female Olympian in skeleton racing. “I haven’t talked much about my sexuality but this one is pretty obvious,” she says. “It’s about wanting to love who you love and not feel shame for that. It’s about wanting to be out in the open just like everyone else gets to be. I don’t know that I’ve ever written a song like this that felt so vulnerable.” Lead single “It’s Not Me” is another must-hear tune. The album is Whitney’s second. She released “In Between” and “Ready, Let, Go” before appearing on The Voice. She’s also dropped two EPs since (2018’s “Battle Within” and 2019’s “Highs + Lows”).
