Five years after his season on American Idol, it looks like Chris Richardson will get to release his debut album in 2012.

Chris released a new video today for a song called “In the Name of Love.” You can watch it below.

And in a video announcement, Birdman, co-founder of Cash Money Records, talks about an album coming out in May.

“I think he’s a special talent,” the rapper/record producer says. “He’s definitely a sensational artist on our brand, YMCMB.”

In the announcement, Chris has nothing but praise for his label: “Everybody wants you to succeed,” he says. “Everybody wants you to just do what you love to do. That’s a different side of this whole music business.”

YMCMB is part of Cash Money Records, a label that’s also home to Lil’ Wayne, Jay Sean and Nicki Minaj. According to his Facebook, Chris signed with the label in 2010.

Chris, 28, is from Chesapeake, Va., and finished fifth back on Season 6 of Idol as the last guy standing other than Blake Lewis.

Since Idol, he released an EP in 2007, co-wrote a pair of tunes on Anoop Desai’s “All Is Fair” album in 2010 and was featured in a single by Tyga named “Far Away” that cracked the Hot 100 on Billboard last year. You can also hear that song below.

No word on yet on when “In the Name of Love” will be available for download.
