I wondered what was going on when two Ariana Grande songs were featured among the six battle round matches The Voice aired Monday night. I mean, celebrity butt-kissing is typical on The Voice. But that level is usually reserved for artists with a connection to the show. Now we know the answer. The connection is…
Gene Garcia and Avery Roberson nabbed steals as The Voice began its battle round Monday night. Also advancing to the knockout round are Connor Christian, Ethan Lively, Pia Renee, Jose Figueroa Jr., Dana Monique and Ryleigh Modig. In addition, Devan Blake Jones was saved by John Legend. That means he’ll be participating in a four-way…
The American Idol judges completed their Top 24 Monday night in a show that, honestly, featured more show stopping performances than the one on Sunday. Next week, voting starts. And it’s a very talented Top 24 that will take the Idol stage in spite of what I thought were a few missteps by judges. That…
The Voice has revealed the pairings and song selections for the first week of the battles. And Avery Roberson of Team Blake will be the only four-chair turn artist taking the stage this week. He’ll be paired with fellow country singer Ethan Lively. Battle advisors this season are Dan + Shay for Team Blake,…
I’m going to issue a challenge to American Idol. I don’t expect the show to take me up on it. But I sure wish they would. And I’m sure as hell going to issue the challenge anyway. You know all those Hollywood performances we didn’t see featuring the Top 24? You know all those…
American Idol begin introducing us to a talented Top 24 Sunday night. But not without a few noticeable casualties after the hopefuls performed solos with the Idol band for the first time. Blake Shelton said he would have turned, but wanted to keep the R&B lane open for an artist he landed earlier in the blinds. Kelly and Nick said Deion…
Her audition: Rio Doyle, 16, of Adrian, Mich., performed “When We Were Young” by Adele. A nice run at the end of the first line enticed a chair turn from John Legend. But he was the only coach to turn, prompting him to wonder aloud: “How am I the only one?” He called her song…
Which coach has the strongest team entering the battle round on The Voice? If you judge it by chair turns, it’s Team Blake Shelton, by the slimmest of margins. If you judge it by four-chair turn artists, it’s Team Kelly, but there weren’t many four-chair turns in Season 20’s blind auditions. Members of Team…
His audition: Zae Romeo, 21, of McKinney, Texas, performed “Falling” by Harry Styles. An impressive glory note early in the performance prompted chair turns from Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas. John Legend and Blake Shelton later turned as well. That made Zae one of just four singers to turn all four chairs in the blinds….
