Paul McDonald of American Idol Season 10 has released “Hold On,” a second song from his upcoming solo album.

Paul McDonald released the second track from his upcoming album Friday.

The new song is called “Hold On,” and Paul told Yahoo Music he wrote it about an ex “who could never stay single for longer than a few weeks.”

Added Paul: “She was always bouncing from relationship to relationship, and changing her personality and opinion depending on whoever she was with at the time.”

The song was his attempt to convince her to become less co-dependent and learn to love herself.

“Hold On” was written with Lincoln Parish, former guitarist for Cage the Elephant.

It’s one of the tracks from Paul’s upcoming album, “Modern Hearts,” scheduled for release sometime later this year.

Lead single “Call On Me” was released in April, and Paul followed up with a video for that song.

The music is the first since Paul’s well-publicized 2014 divorce from actress Nikki Reed, whom he met in 2011 while competing on Season 10 of American Idol.

Here’s the new song.
