So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s planning to release new original music soon.
The 30-year-old from Tallahassee, Fla., turned two chairs in the blinds with his cover of Wyclef Jean’s “911”; then won a battle round match with Kiara Brown.
His time on The Voice ended in a knockout match against young rocker Jake HaldenVang that aired Monday.
Here’s what Royce told Voice Views about his time on the show and his plans for new music.
Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?
Royce: I think this definitely taught me something about “being in the moment.” This huge production can definitely get in a contestant’s head trying to weigh themselves against all the other voices. But you have to stay in the moment.
Something a bit more tangible I learned is fashion and stage presence. When it comes to a national TV stage or an arena there’s a different method to your performance as well as fashion and I think I’ve taken away something fantastic.
Voice Views: The battles and knockouts were filmed over the summer. What have you been doing musically since then and where are you hoping The Voice experience leads?
Royce: I’m a full-time singer/songwriter so I never stop writing or performing. I have a few new singles that I am eager to release and I’m so happy for the opportunities and doors that have opened to partner with this new music.
Voice Views: Do you plan to release new music anytime soon? If so, can you tell me about that — what you’re planning, what fans can expert in terms of sound and the timetable for doing?
Royce: I’ve been planning to release new music ever since I got the email from The Voice. That was the goal; to gain beautiful new fans, across a mainstream market. My team and I are releasing some reggae influence soul music to go along with some of the choices that were picked for me stylistically, which I will believe will be a great introduction for new fans and supporters. Since I’ve been on The Voice, I’ve had over 2 million streams on Spotify and I can’t wait to watch that rise.
4. Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?
Royce: Yes! Coming into this I was very much so afraid folks would categorize me into one box of the genre and I’m very happy that my coach Gwen Stefani saw that and gave me some great advice to continue reaching people through different styles of music.
