Ryan Scripps was eliminated in the battle round on The Voice.
But as Blake Shelton anguished over which singer to keep after that battle round, he paid Ryan a pretty big compliment.
Blake told Ryan he “embodies what’s happening on radio with current country music.”
And we’ll hear new country music, Ryan Scripps style, in the not-too-distant future.
Ryan told Voice Views he’s been busy in the studio recording a new single and working on an accompanying lyric video “that I’m very excited about.”
It won’t be his first release. Last year, he released a solid six-track EP called “Everything But Her.”
On The Voice, the 24-year-old from San Jose performed “Body Like a Back Road” in the blinds to earn a spot on Team Blake. That performance was montaged.
But with got to see his battle round match was against fellow country singer Red Marlow. They performed “Fishin’ in the Dark,” and their performance cracked the Top 200 on the iTunes country chart.
Here’s Voice Views’ interview with Ryan.
Voice Views: I know the battles were filmed a while back. What have you been doing musically since then?
Ryan: Since the battles were filmed back in August, I have been playing many shows both acoustically and full band around Northern California. I have also been in the studio recording my new single which is set to release very soon.
Voice Views: Where do you see The Voice experience taking you musically?
Ryan: My experience on the Voice was incredible to say the least and I am hoping it opens many doors for me moving on with my music career. Being on The Voice and getting to work with country music icons Blake Shelton and Rascal Flatts has really motivated me to continue pursuing music as my career.
Ryan: I do have another project in the making right now. I have been in the studio recording my next single and lyric video for that single which I am very excited about!
Voice Views: Other than the friends you met and made while participating in the show and the hometown support, what do you think will stick with you about The Voice experience?
Ryan: Besides meeting and building new friendships with so many amazing people, I think my experience being coached by Blake Shelton and Rascal Flatts will definitely stick with me forever. They helped me in so many ways — one of those ways being how important it is to push outside your comfort zone.
I also give a ton of the credit to my vocal coach behind the scenes that nobody sees on TV. I never have had vocal lessons before my time on The Voice and my vocal coach helped me tremendously in so many ways.
Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist? If so, in what way?
Ryan: I feel that I have really grown as an artist in many ways from being on The Voice. Not only do I feel more confident vocally, but also as a performer and entertainer. I think the confidence boost will really play a positive role when it comes to my live shows that I play on a regular basis.
