But by that time, his new music had already received a great reception.
Sawyer released a four-track, self-titled EP early Wednesday morning. An hour after its release, it was at 131 on the iTunes albums chart.
By the time Sawyer took The Voice stage, it was number six. And by noon Thursday, it had climbed to number five.
That’s a pretty impressive start to a post-Voice career for the 16-year-old from Fultonville, N.Y.
The Voice’s Season 8 winner also spent some time responding to fan questions on Twitter prior to his performance.
Asked whether he still plans to work on a full album for release in 2016, Sawyer responded: “You know it.”
Asked about his advice for future Voice contestants, Sawyer wrote: “Be true to yourself and don’t worry about moving forward or going home. Just enjoy the moment.”
And asked whether he’s considered acting, Sawyer responded: “Not really my thing, lol. But thanks for thinking I could.”
Oh, and as a single, “Take It All” was number two on iTunes’ singer-songwriter singles chart and number 42 on the Top 200 as of noon Thursday.
If you missed the news, the EP features a duet with another Season 8 standout, Mia Z, on a song called “Stranger.”
