The Voice will make us wait until the end of a two-hour finale (9 p.m. start time) tonight to tell us what we know is going to happen.

Sawyer Fredericks will become the Season 8 champion.

If that wasn’t already certain, it should be now. Just take a look at today’s iTunes results.

And don’t just look at the top of the chart.

I mean, that’s impressive enough. When voting ended at noon, the 16-year-old had the second and third most popular songs on iTunes with his new single “Please” and his cover of “Old Man.”

The only artist topping him on the chart: Taylor Swift, who just won something like 100 Billboard music awards earlier this week (okay, I exaggerate).

Anyway, look down the iTunes Top 200 singles chart and you’ll find 11 other previous songs he performed on The Voice.

That’s right, counting last night’s duet with Pharrell, he has 14 of the Top 200 songs on iTunes.

The other contestants: Meghan Linsey had four past performances in the Top 200 as of noon; Koryn Hawthorne and Joshua Davis, two apiece.

Anyone think he won’t be The Voice Season 8 champ?

Actually, all of the Top 4 has a lot to be proud of entering tonight’s season finale.

    * Add Meghan Linsey’s “Change My Mind” and Joshua Davis’ “The Workingman’s Hymn” and three of those four new singles were in the Top 10 on iTunes at noon.
    * Seven of last night’s 12 performances landed in the Top 15 on iTunes, including Koryn Hawthorne’s new single, “Bright Fire.”
    * Ten of last night’s 12 performances landed in the Top 30 on iTunes. The lone exceptions were Meghan’s duet with Blake Shelton and Koryn’s with Pharrell.

And, oh well, if The Voice makes us wait two hours to proclaim Sawyer the champ tonight, at least we’ll be treated to some top-flight entertainment.

Special guests tonight include Meghan Trainor, Ed Sheeran, Luke Bryan and Kelly Clarkson. Maroon 5 will also play its new single, which just might include lots of bleeped-out lyrics.
