Here’s comes Kimberly Caldwell, with another single to try to kickstart her long-awaited first album.

If it doesn’t work, it won’t be because the new song isn’t catchy enough.

The tune is called “Desperate Girls and Stupid Boys,” and I like it more than any Idol single I’ve heard in a while.

The song will be released Dec.7 on iTunes and Amazon, but Kimberly tweeted earlier this week that she was filming the video for the song.

“Just wrapped up a 15-hour video shoot,” she tweeted late Tuesday or early Wednesday. “Gonna be so rad.”

As for that album, “Without Regret” … it’s now listed for a Dec. 31 release on Amazon.com.  I have doubts about the date since that’s a Friday.

Sometime in January is more likely; that’s what we were told in July by reps from Vanguard Records.

The album was originally scheduled for an April release, then pushed back to July, then pushed back again so new songs could be added to the album.

Apparently this is one of the new songs, because “Desperate Boys and Stupid Girls” was not part of the track list announced for the album earlier last year.

Kimberly placed seventh back on season two of Idol, but has stayed in the public eye with a number of TV appearances, including as host of TV Guide’s Idol Tonight.

So, while we wait for the new album, enjoy the new single …
