Javier Colon is named first-ever winner on The Voice

I don’t know how telling it is, but I took a look at the iTunes download chart a few minutes ago.

Sitting at number one, Dia Framption with “Inventing Shadows.”

Sitting at number two, Javier Colon with “Stitch by Stitch.”

So I’d say they’re our favorites heading into tonight’s season finale on NBC’s surprisingly successful The Voice.

But before we hear the results, we’ll be treated to lots of music, including from Miranda Lambert and Stevie Nicks. That alone should make the show worth watching.

First up to duet tonight will be Vicci Martinez with Pat Monahan of Train. They’ll perform “Drops of Jupiter.” Very nice performance of that song. I don’t think Vicci will ever be boring on stage.

Next up, a real treat: Javier performs with Stevie Nicks. They’ll sing “Landslide.” Stevie, by the way, released a fine new album earlier this year.

Beverly McClellan takes the stage next, performing with Ryan Tedder. They’ll sing One Republic’s “Good Life.” Glad to see Carson Daly got the pronunciation of Ryan’s name right the second time around. OK, this is a little painful. Not sure the song is well suited to Beverly.

The final duet of the night will feature Dia Frampton singing with Blake’s wife, Miranda Lambert. They’re going to sing Miranda’s great single, “The House That Built Me.” But as great as the song is, again, I’m not sure it showcases Dia’s voice all that well.

OK, time to find out who wins The Voice. As I’ve said before, I don’t think the show can go wrong naming any one of these four as the winner. Carson tells us the voting was extremely close, with only 2 percent separately the top two.

And the top two are — Dia Frampton and Javier Colon.

And the first-ever voice is Javier Colon.

Nice choice, voters. Not only is his original song from last night number two on iTunes; his duet with coach Adam Levine is in the top 10.

And earlier in the show, the father of two said his career was looking pretty bleak prior to The Voice.

No so now. He just won a $100,000 prize and a recording contract, guaranteeing we’ll be hearing more from Javier in the future.

Likely from some of the other finalists as well.
