The Top 8 on The Voice include Adam Cunningham, Chloe Kohanski, Noah Mac, Addison Agen, Brooke Simpson, Red Marlow Keisha Renee and Davon Fleming (NBC Photo)
Fans of Red Marlow and Adam Cunningham had better be prepared to vote like crazy tonight and tomorrow morning by any means possible.
That’s because The Voice’s decision to include duets on Top 8 night — and include them in the voting — will put the two country artists at a distinct disadvantage.
That’s because in addition to the the traditional methods of voting for songs from The Voice — iTunes downloads and Apple Music streaming — The Voice is allowing special Twitter voting for the duets only.
If you tweet a specific hashtag during the voting window — 8 p.m. eastern time Monday to noon eastern time Tuesday — it will count as one vote for each member of a duet. Only one vote per Twitter account is allowed.
Now, The Voice has done a decent job of matching up singers based on musical similarities. I’m actually more concerned about how the Addison Agen/Keisha Renee duet will work out than the Red/Adam pairing.
But as I warned in earlier blogs, there’s no fair way to present duets at this stage of the competition. And the Twitter voting gives an obvious edge to contestants with — gee, whiz, could it be? — the contestants with the biggest followings on Twitter.
So Red and Adam will duet, right? Check out their social media numbers.
Combined, Red and Adam have fewer Twitter followers (about 18,000) than Chloe Kohanski alone (about 19,000). What’s more, Chloe has gained about 15,500 of those followers since the live shows began. Adam and Red combined have gained about 14,500.
And Chloe’s duet is with Noah Mac, who has 17,300 Twitter followers of his own, 5,000 more than Red and twice as many as Adam.
Fair?
Hardly.
Here are the songs we’ll be hearing tonight. Oh, and the hashtags you’ll need to remember to vote for the duets: #AdamRedDuet, #ChloeNoahDuet, #AddisonKeishaDuet and #BrookeDavonDuet.
Do not reverse the names. The Voice warns that if you do, the vote won’t count.

Interesting. Does anyone know who chose the songs?
