Voice rocker Kat Perkins returns with promised EP

Kat PerkinsWhen Kat Perkins released her new single “Drive” earlier this summer, she promised a full EP of original tunes would follow.

She’s delivered. Her eight-track self-titled EP came out Friday and is now available on iTunes.

Kat has said her goal was to release a wide-ranging EP since she attracted fans age 5 to 85 during her Season 5 stint on The Voice.

“I feel like the best thing I can do to speak to those fans is to make a record that is completely broad and will appeal to everyone,” she told FM94 in an interview you can hear here. “So it has a little rock, it has a little bit of pop, it has some blues, and it’s got some theatrical stuff on it and it’s got some ballads. So it’s kind of something for everyone.”

The theatrics come in a ballad called “Main Street.” There’s an impressive power rock ballad, too, called “When It’s Raining.”

But Kat’s at her best in her pop-rocker mode, with tunes called “Marry Me” and “Take This Heart and Leave.”

And, of course, if you haven’t already downloaded it, the EP includes the rock single “Drive.”

Kat finished in the Top 5 on Season 5 of The Voice after landing a spot on Team Adam with her cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman.”

You can keep up with Kat on her website, Facebook and on Twitter, where she’s @katperkinsmusic.

Now, here’s one of my favorites from the EP, “Take This Heart and Leave.”
