I have more questions than answers at this point, but it’s clear something didn’t go as planned with The Voice’s Neon Dreams.
The show was supposed to debut early next month at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The show’s website promised a 360-degree live production, featuring former stars from The Voice singing classics from the past, ranging from Michael Jackson to Johnny Cash to Fleetwood Mac.
In fact, Season 13 champ Chloe Kohanski was supposed to join a cast that also included Season 10 winner Alisan Porter, Mary Sarah, Chris Mann, Matt McAndrew and Matthew Schuler. With another former Voice contestant, Michael Sanchez, as band director.
See the update …
Construction delays pushed back Neon Dreams
As of mid-February, tickets for early June shows at the Hard Rock were on sale. If you visited the show’s website, Chloe’s smiling face was the first thing you saw.
Well, it appears the show has now been pushed back to a mid-September opening. That’s what is now indicated on the website. That’s what Carson Daly said in a brief mention during last week’s results show.
And while Alisan, Mary Sarah, Chris, Matt and Matthew are still prominently featured on that website, all mention of Chloe has disappeared, despite the fact that the Vegas gig was billed as part of her prize for winning Season 13.
If Chloe manages to dodge a go-to-Vegas-to-sing-covers bullet, it might not be a bad thing.
I always thought it was odd — okay, downright stupid — for The Voice to send one of its most marketable winners to Vegas to perform every day while she’s also recording a debut album.
Besides, Chloe just posted “5.22.18” on her Twitter account this weekend.
The release date for a new single? An appearance on The Voice? Both perhaps? That is Season 14 finale night, after all.
As for Neon Dreams, I’m awaiting answers on a series of questions. I’ve been waiting. Since the day after Carson mentioned Neon Dream and mid-September in the same sentence on the results show. And mentioned every anticipated cast member but Chloe.
Meanwhile, at the Hard Rock Casino, a Magic Mike Live “Acrobatic Strip Tease Spectacular” is playing on a 360-degree rotating stage all summer.
I kid you not.
