So, you’ve read what I had to say about the Idol finale.
That Phillip Phillips might have won the night based on that last number, but that Jessica Sanchez should be the Season 11 Idol.
Here’s what some others are saying …
Michael Slezak, TV Line: Says Phillip won the night. But for the season? “Jessica (call me crazy, but I think her fan base is gonna help carry her over that incongruous final ditty.)”
MTV: Gives the advantage to Phillip, largely on the final song of the night. “Phillips’ song ‘Home,’ … was tailor-made for the 21-year-old. He performed the rootsy ballad with a full drum line and stole the show, earning the evening’s only standing ovation from the judges following the song.”
E! Online: Also noted how much better a fit Phillip’s song was than Jessica’s, saying “at least someone went out and wrote Phillip a folksy, indie-rock-sounding tune that would not sound completely out of place on his debut album. In turn, he got the best reception for a “first single” song that we’ve seen in years!”
New York Daily News: Wasn’t impressed with either singer Tuesday. But says “Though the young Sanchez may need guidance and time, her superior chops make her far preferable to the self-indulgent Phillips. With the right song, and handlers, she could become the honed star the show only hinted at.”
MSNBC: Says it’s hard to envision Phillip not winning after that finish to Tuesday’s show. “Phillip Phillips will likely win season 11 of “American Idol,” but if that’s the result revealed Wednesday, Jessica Sanchez will have to wonder what might have been if she’d closed Tuesday night’s show with a better original song.”
