The finals, The X Factor

As expected, Marcus heads home on The X Factor

2

Listen back to the judges’ comments last night and you’ll find that …

* The judges pretty much told Josh Krajcik he earned a spot in the finals.

* The judges told Melanie Amaro the finals would seem empty without her, as well they would.

* The judges told Chris Rene he should be in the finals.

Heck, considering some of the ovations he got from the crowd, I’m half afraid he’ll win.

That leaves …

You guessed it: Marcus Canty to go home tonight.

To be honest, the three-time sing-off champ was just average last night.

And since that three-time champ designation merely means he got so few votes that he had to sing for his X Factor life three straight weeks … well, let’s just say I can’t see him attracting more support than Chris, Josh or Melanie.

Of course, I pretty much wrote the same thing a week ago, when Marcus was just a two-time sing-off champ.

The next thing we knew, Rachel Crow was crumpled in a teary crouch on The X Factor stage and boos were being heaped upon poor Nicole Scherzinger for not saving her.

Well, there will be no reason to boo the judges tonight. They get no say in the decision. Low vote-getter goes home.

Which means there won’t be any sing-offs this week either.

Oh, no. How will The X Factor fill the next hour of our lives.

For starters, we’ll get to listen to a performance by the aforementioned Nicole.  Can’t wait.  Especially if it’s as forgettable as that performance on Idol earlier this year.

Now, 37 minutes into tonight’s show, we get the names of two finalists.

Advancing is …

* Chris Rene.  Not surprised.  Judges have been pushing him big time for the last two weeks.

* Melanie Amaro.  No-brainer there.  The finals truly would have been empty without her.

And the final contestant advancing is …

* Josh Krajcik.  Well, he established himself as one of the top three singers weeks ago, alongside Drew Ryniewicz and Melanie Amaro.

* Marcus Canty goes home. You have to admire how he’s handling it and the way he handled himself throughout the competition.

Early prediction on next week’s finish:

3. Josh Krajcik

2. Chris Rene

1. Melanie Amaro

At least she should win.

Yep, that’s the hope anyway. Probably between Christmas and New Year’s.
