Melanie Amaro is back with a new music video

0
years have passed since Melanie Amaro won Season 1 of The X Factor and was appearing with Elton John in a Super Bowl commercial.

And she’s trying to fight her way back from musical obscurity.

The latest step: The release of a video for “The One,” a single she released back in February.

The song is a ballad about finding that special person, was released independently and has failed to chart so far.

You’ll recall that Melanie’s X Factor victory was accompanied by a $5 million prize and a contract with Epic Records where X Factor coach L.A. Reid was supposed to work with Amaro on her debut album.

A couple of singles resulted — “Long Distance” and “Don’t Fail Me Now” — but the album never materialized and Melanie’s no longer on the label.

She’s released a pair of singles since — “Fuel My Fire” (2014) and “Dust” (2015).

In an interview earlier this year with PopDust, Melanie said she wasn’t part of the creative process at Epic and “felt like I was being pushed into a mold that I didn’t necessarily fit.”

“I’ve been focusing on the new music and trying to really find my sound and start fresh,” she said. “Being able to be a part of the creative process of making music has been great.”

At the time of the interview, “One” had just been released and Melanie said she planned to followup with an EP called “Nice Nasty,” a mix of slow love ballads and more urban music.

More new music might indeed be coming. In the past week, Melanie has posted snippets of two new songs — “Slow” and “I’m Done — on her Facebook page.
