Season 13

Jena, Caleb and Alex make Top 3 on American Idol

OK, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that Jess Meuse is likely to be eliminated tonight on American Idol.

After all, one song from Wednesday’s show cracked the iTunes Top 200 today, albeit just briefly.

It was “Too Close,” the iTunes song available this week from Alex Preston.

And Alex figures to be Jess’ prime competition for the third spot in the Top 3 on Season 13.

I just refuse to think Caleb Johnson or Jena Irene could be in any kind of trouble tonight after the way they performed last night.

Given a choice of listening to Jess or Alex sing, I’d listen to Jess any day.

But even if she goes home tonight, she will have made Stephanie Hankey’s mom look like a fool.

You remember Stephanie’s mom, right? From Hollywood Week? Jess joined Stephanie’s group late and struggled learning the lyrics. Yet Jess advanced and Stephanie didn’t.

Steph’s mom went on a tirade afterward, swearing Idol fans would never vote for Jess. Well, look who made the Top 4 folks.

And if Jess is eliminated, perhaps she’ll sing her original “Blue Eyed Lie,” as her farewell song. It’s a great tune and belongs in the set on the summer tour.

For a look at how the Idols did today on iTunees, head here. And if you missed the photo gallery from last night’s show, head here.

First, Randy’s take: He calls Jena’s cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” one of the best in Idol history. He says Caleb had an amazing night. He says Jess had a mixed night until her final performance. And he says Alex had a good night. And then he tries to make a football analogy that makes no sense.

Hey, and we’re already getting results. Heading home for a celebratory parade are …

* Jena Irene. Of course, no way she hasn’t earned the final three. And, remember folks, she was a wild card contestant.

* Caleb Johnson: OK, now we can breathe a sigh of relief. The two who deserve to be in the finals are safe for another week.

* Alex Preston: Figured so. Oh, well, Jess made the top four and outlasted Sam Woolf, so all’s good.

That means Jess Meuse heads home in fourth place.

And, yes, she gets to sing “Blue Eyed Lie.” Download this song, folks. It’s great. Not to mention the first original ever performed on Idol.
